Time tracking in businesses
Last updated 26/08/2025 – Reading time: 2 min
From July 1, 2024, all Danish companies must ensure that their employees register their working hours in a time registration system. The purpose of the legislation is to ensure that the rules of the 48-hour work week and rest periods are complied with.
New requirements for time tracking
The law introduces a number of requirements that all employers must meet:
- Employees should be able to track their working hours
- Registration must be done in a digital tool
- The system must be accessible to control authorities
- Data must be stored for a minimum of 5 years
Time registration applies to all employees, regardless of whether they are salaried, hourly, part-time or young workers. Only the company director is exempt, as directors organize their own working hours.
Why is time tracking important?
With accurate time tracking, companies can ensure correct payroll, documentation to authorities and a healthy balance between work and rest. In addition, time tracking can provide insight into productivity and resource usage.
How to implement time tracking
At Accountview, we recommend using the tools already available in Salary, where time tracking can be integrated directly into the payroll system.
